MENCHIOR SPRL CREATION AND PRODUCTION

Six generations of sculptors, artisans, ornamentalists and artists

1850—thanks to Pierre-Joseph Menchior and his wife the workshop is born.

1918—Joseph and Alphonse, sons of Pierre-Joseph and artists of the first order, study ornamental sculpture and statuary at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Liège. Alphonse graduates magna cum laude. Both begin work in the workshop their father founded. By the end of the First World War it has become a thriving enterprise.

1930—Alphonse Menchior takes over the business in his own name (Joseph having gone his own way) and after that the company begins a growth curve that has never slowed.

In the 1950s, Alphonse’s two sons, Pierre and Daniel, follow in their father’s footsteps, studying at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Liège.

Like him, they both take magna cum laude’s and emerge as brilliant sculptors in their own rite.

1982—years pass and the two brothers, Pierre and the always dynamic and charismatic Daniel, decide to turn the family business into a corporation, named SPRL A. Menchior & Sons.

Then Pierre’s three children, Jean-Luc, Alain and Fabienne, follow the family tradition, attending the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Liège, then joining the business.

Additionally all three take training in business.

Fabienne, a prolific artist and painter, and the youngest in the family, also takes a degree in business administration and finance, for which she is awarded suma cum laude.

2000—a birthday, 150 years since the workshop’s founding! There is not only pride in maintaining the great traditions of the trade but also in remaining for decades at the top of their field.

They are now among the most sought-after craftsmen in Europe.

2001—a decisive year of expansion. Menchior & Sons workshops move to new location in the industrial park of Bon Fortune on the outskirts of Liège.
There are now two companies, one producing and the other installing the well-known Menchior brand of artisanal creations.

2011, the tradition continues, the 6th generation arrives, the youngest son of Alain, Ludovic, begins training as a craftsman despite his young age. Very quickly he will learn the trade and develop a love and passion for the job.

2018, the company continues to grow with the arrival of a second child of Alain, Valentine, who takes over the management of the two companies that share the same space.
